OUR STORY
A family recipe, carried across the world.
From a beloved bakery in Nigeria to shelves and tables across Western Australia — three generations, one love of good food.

WHERE IT BEGAN
It started with our mother.
Before Shy Bakers, there was a bakery in Nigeria — a successful baking and event décor business our mother, Victoria Shyllon, ran for ten years. When she migrated to Australia in 2002, she handed the shop to her sister, who runs it to this day.
In Perth she built a new life as a nurse, qualifying in 2003 and again as a registered nurse in 2011. But the baking never left her. She made cakes for friends, for church, for family — quietly, out of love, for years.
WHERE IT BEGAN
Made with love, then made properly.
For years, people told her to start a business. The cakes, the pies, the chin chin were that good. But doing it properly in a new country — the how of it — took time, and it took all of us. Every batch was a family effort between our mother and her three children.
After finishing a Bachelor of Engineering with first-class honours in 2013, I went to work for one of the largest oil-service companies in the world. I learned what it looks like when something is run with real discipline and efficiency — and it woke something in me. I wanted to build something of our own that ran the same way.
In 2017 we took the leap and registered as Excel Cakes & Event Décor. Décor was a big part of it at first, but as the food found its audience we chose to focus on what we do best — the baking. In 2021 we became a company, Shy Bakers, to build it properly and stand behind everything we make.
"Recipes our mother perfected in Nigeria, made by hand in Perth. We're not just selling food — we're sharing where we come from."
